The contract is a guide, not legal advice

It follows the Basic Conditions of Employment Act and Sectoral Determination 7 for domestic workers. Read it together and have it reviewed by a lawyer before you both sign.

What the hiring kit includes

Every Profile Unlock pack includes the hiring kit: an employment contract guide generated from the terms both parties confirm in Guided Hire, a UIF registration guide and a fair-pay checklist. Both of you receive the same private PDF of the agreement.

Agree the important terms

Before the first day, talk through the work and record the agreed details in writing. Both the employer and helper should keep a copy.

  • Names and contact details for both parties, the job title and main duties.
  • Start date, usual workplace, working days, hours and breaks.
  • Pay rate, payday, any lawful deductions, and how overtime or additional hours will be handled.
  • Leave, notice, a process for raising concerns, and any agreed live-in arrangements.
  • Make sure the terms meet applicable labour laws. Do not use a template to waive legal rights.

Use an official sample with care

The Department of Employment and Labour publishes a sample employment contract. It is a starting point, not a contract prepared for your particular situation. Check that any document is current and complete, and get independent advice if you are unsure.
